Checkups and Dental Cleaning Vienna, VA

Great oral health begins at home. Brushing twice a day and flossing once daily are essential to developing and maintaining excellent smile health. However, even the most thorough at home care can’t fully prepare patients for a lifetime of healthy smiles, but coupled with twice annual dental checkups and teeth cleanings from Vienna Smiles, patients experience optimal oral health for a lifetime.

At six-month checkups, Drs. Barakat and Bobbio provide patients with hi-definition x-rays (at least once a year), and dental examination to detect any current concerns. In addition to these typical treatments, our Arlington dentists provide screenings and treatment for periodontal disease, bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching), TMJ dysfunction, and oral cancer. These conditions have detrimental effects on oral health, but caught in their earliest stages, are 100% treatable.

Our skilled dental hygienists, Alla and Sharon, provide patients with thorough teeth cleanings to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Even with regular brushing and flossing, bacteria in the mouth necessary for digestion mixes with sugars in our diet. This bacteria + sugar combination is highly acidic. Typically, saliva neutralizes the acid, but when we ingest sugary foods regularly, our oral ecosystems becomes unbalanced. When this happens, bacteria form a sticky layer of biofilm called plaque making it more difficult to remove. Over time, plaque calcifies forming dental calculus often referred to as tartar. Our hygienists are able to eliminate this built up of tartar that is not removable with brushing and flossing alone.
